Agenda
I. Elections
a. Good news to start off the New Year = a new Programming Chair!
i. Connie will take on this role for our chapter!
II. Programming
a. MALCS Symposium
i. Things to consider --> PSWA on 4/13 and CSGS SRC on 5/15
ii. The collective decision was made to postpone the Symposium until the Fall Quarter
b. On the Edge Screening
i. We are currently looking to have this event take place sometime around Week 7, although a definite date is still to be determined!
ii. Victoria is the mujer who goes to campuses to screen the film
1. She does not ask for monetary compensation, but does ask for art supplies to support a curriculum used with youth
2. This means that we will need to coordinate an art drive prior to and during the event ~ more details to come!
c. Femicidio en Guatemala
i. Date: February 28th at 4:30 p.m.
ii. Mike Soldatenko is making all of the arrangements; our role will be more in terms of advertisement
iii. We have also been asked to provide an honorarium
d. CA Latinas for Reproductive Justice
i. Gabriela Valles, meeting on January 17th at 2p.m.
ii. Lucila attend the meeting to see what a collaboration with this organization for an event would entail
iii. The group is not asking for money, but a space in which to make a presentation
iv. More details to come!
III. Announcements
a. MALCS as an Official Student Org.
i. Lucila will attend the meeting required in order for MALCS to be recognized as a student org. on campus
ii. This is a must so that we can later request funding!
b. “Youth, Student, and Women’s Activism in the Chicano Movement”
i. Taking place on Tuesday, January 23rd at 6:15 p.m. in Profa. D’s class
ii. This event is open to all who want to attend ~ it should be a great, empowering opportunity for those who can make it!
c. “Magic Cleaners” and IDEPSCA
i. Profa. D. shared initial information with us on this new project that is being undertaken with the mujeres at the Day Labor Center on Lake Avenue in Pasadena
ii. The idea is for them to create a niche in providing eco friendly cleaning services
iii. Their need is support in terms of learning English for: language of environmentalism; cleaning; terms for interaction with employers à want more practical, immediate English skills
iv. Profa. D. will keep us updated on what future collaborations might look like!
IV. Next Meeting: 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2007 at Antigua
a. This time will be used to divvy up tasks for the three aforementioned events, get a sense of mujeres’ availability this quarter, and enjoy ourselves once more in a space off campus….hasta sábado! =)
